  • Instructions: Your Stay

Hilton Hotel Brand: Select the Hilton brand for your stay. You can only select one brand at a time. All 14 of Hilton’s hotel brands are included in the calculator: Canopy, Conrad, Curio Collection, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton Grand Vacations, Home2 Suites, Homewood Suites, Tapestry Collection, Tru, and Waldorf Astoria.

    # of Nights: Select the number of nights for your stay, from 1 to 30 nights.

    # of Nights: Enter the monetary USD value of one Hilton Honors point. This figure is used to convert the value of points to money, so you can compare the different rates. The calculator defaults to Real World Machine’s recommended value of one Hilton Honors point, but you can change it to any positive value.

    Instructions: Money-Only Rate

Room Rate: Enter the nightly room rate for your room for a cash-only (non-points) stay, including any mandatory resort fees but excluding taxes. If you are staying multiple days and your room rate changes during your stay, use the average room rate across all of the nights of your stay as your room rate. For example, if you are staying three nights with nightly rates of $170, $185, and $203, you would enter your average room rate of “$186” as your room rate in the calculator.

Taxes: Enter the taxes for your entire stay for a cash-only (non-points) stay. You do not earn Hilton Honors points directly on lodging taxes paid, but you will earn bonus Hilton Honors points if you use a co-branded American Express or Citi Hilton credit card to pay for your stay, since the credit card issuers will issue you bonus Hilton Honors points for all spending at Hilton brands, including taxes.

    Instructions: Points-Only Rate

Room Rate: Enter the nightly room rate for your room for a points-only (non-cash) stay. If you are staying multiple days and your room rate changes during your stay, use the average room rate across all of the nights of your stay as your room rate. For example, if you are staying three nights with nightly rates of 20,000 points, 24,000 points, and 25,000 points, you would enter your average room rate of 23,000 points as your room rate in the calculator. Taxes are generally not levied on all-points award stays and resort fees, if applicable, are generally waived.

Rate Already Includes 5th Night Free: Hilton Honors offers all elite members (Silver, Gold, and Diamond) the opportunity to receive every fifth night of an award stay for free, for up to four free nights (20 nights total) during a single stay. Hilton calculates the average of points per night cost for your award stay and subtracts this average from your total points cost for your award stay for every five nights that you stay during your award stay.

If your room rate entered in the previous field already includes the “5th Night Free” award, select “yes.” Otherwise, select “no” and the calculator will automatically include the appropriate number of free fifth nights in your point cost totals.

Standard Room Redemption: The aforementioned “5th Night Free” award only applies if you redeeming your points for a “standard room” (and hold elite status). If the rate you provided does not already factor in the fifth free night award, the calculator needs to know if you are booking a standard room and hence are eligible for the fifth free night award. Properties have broad discretion in deciding what constitutes a standard room, i.e., even rooms that are not suites, such as rooms with a desirable view, may not count as standard rooms.

    Instructions: Points-and-Money Rate

While some hotels in the Hilton family of brands previously offered rates for which the guest paid both points and cash (money) in one combined rate, Hilton recently expanded this rate type to almost all hotels in the Hilton Honors program. In a departure from the previous iteration, guests now earn Hilton Honors points based on the cash portion of their combined rate.

Room Rate | Cash: Enter the nightly room rate for the cash portion (non-points portion) of your stay, including any mandatory resort fees but excluding taxes. If you are staying multiple days and your room rate changes during your stay, use the average room rate across all of the nights of your stay as your room rate. For example, if you are staying three nights with nightly rates of $170, $185, and $203, you would enter your average room rate of “$186” as your room rate in the calculator.

Taxes | Cash: Enter the taxes for your entire stay for the cash portion (non-points portion) of your stay.

Room Rate | Points: Enter the nightly room rate for the points portion (non-cash portion) of your stay.

    Instructions: Other Information

Other Eligible Folio Charges: Enter the total (and not nightly) cost of anticipated “eligible folio charges” from your stay other than your room rate. Eligible charges include food and beverage, telephone, laundry, pay-per-view movies, entertainment and recreational facilities, and other incidental charges…all which must be posted to your room folio in order to be points-earning eligible. You cannot incur eligible folio charges at Hampton, Home2 Suites, Homewood Suites, or Tru; only your room rate is eligible for earning points at these brands. The calculator automatically tracks whether or not your folio charges are eligible, based on hotel brand, when calculating how many points you will earn.

Hilton Honors Elite Status: Select your elite status in the Hilton Honors program at the time of your stay. Basic non-elite membership in the Hilton Honors program is called “Blue.” Blue members should select “None” as their elite status tier.

Bonus Miles or Points: In addition to the base Hilton Honors points you earn during your stay, you can earn either (a) partner miles or points or (b) 5 bonus Hilton Honors points per dollar in eligible charges (2.5 bonus points at Home2 Suites and Tru). If you are earning bonus Hilton points, also known as “Points & Points,” select “Hilton” for this field. If you are earning bonus partner miles, also known as “Points & Miles,” select the mileage partner for this field. You can select your “Double Dip” earning style in your Hilton Honors account profile before your stay.

MyWay Benefit Selection: Gold and Diamond elite members can choose a welcome amenity of either additional bonus “Points” or “Food” — breakfast, at brands that do not offer free breakfast to all guests, or snacks and water/beverages — dependent on the hotel brand and your “MyWay” benefit selection. In some instances, Diamond members may receive both the food and the bonus points at some brands; in these instances, the calculator will automatically add the bonus points even if you select “food” or “other.” Waldorf Astoria guests can select among other amenities. If you select “Silver” or “None” as your elite status, your welcome amenity selection does not affect your point calculations.

Go More, Get More: From May 1, 2017 through August 31, 2017, guests (other than Diamond members) who have registered for this promotion will receive 2x base points for their stay (20 points per dollar in eligible charges…double the usual rate). Diamond members receive 3x base points (30 points per dollar in eligible charges…triple the usual rate). If you have registered for this promotion and your stay ends within the promotional time period, select “Yes.”

Mobile App Booking: From February 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017, guests who booked their reservation through the Hilton Honors iOS or Android mobile apps will receive a bonus 500 points per stay. You can receive this bonus on award stays, provided your incur an eligible folio charge. Other Promotions: Use this field to enter any additional one-off bonus points you will receive for your stay that are otherwise not reflected elsewhere in the calculator.

    Instructions: Co-Branded Credit Card

Using Co-Branded Credit Card: If you are paying with a co-branded American Express Hilton Honors Surpass (12x points for spending at Hilton brands), American Express Hilton Honors (7x points for spending at Hilton brands), Citi Hilton Honors Reserve (10x points for spending at Hilton brands), or Citi Hilton Honors (6x points for spending at Hilton brands), you receive bonus points that will post to your Hilton Honors account when your co-branded credit card account statement posts. The calculator assumes you are using U.S. versions of these co-branded credit cards.

American Express also runs an ongoing promotion where you receive an additional 500 bonus points per stay when you book and pay for your stay with your co-branded AMEX card; award stays will trigger the bonus, provided you incur an eligible folio charge.

    Details: Comparison

Based on the information you provided, this section of calculator compares your projected spending—both in cash and in points—and points earning rates across the three rate types: Money, Points, and Points & Money.

Total Cash Spent: This figure equals the amount of money that you would spend for your stay for each rate type, inclusive of ineligible folio charges and taxes, if applicable.

Total Honors Points Spent: This figure equals the amount of Hilton Honors points that you would spend for your stay for each rate type.

Value of Honors Points Spent: This figure represents the value of any Hilton Honors points spent for each rate type, using the default value of one Hilton Honors point, unless you provided a different figure in the calculator.

Total Honors Points Earned: This figure equals the total number of Hilton Honors points that the calculator estimates you will earn for your stay based on the input you provided for each rate type. The Points Earning Details section at the end of the calculator provides a breakout of how this figure was calculated.

Value of Honors Points Earned: This figure represents the value of any Hilton Honors points earned for each rate type, using the default value of one Hilton Honors point, unless you provided a different figure in the calculator.

Effective Rate Per Night: This figure represents the effective cost per night, in cash (money), of each rate type. This figure is calculated by adding the amount of cash spent plus the value of Hilton Honors points spent less the value of any Hilton Honors points earned. The resulting number is divided by the number of nights to reach the final effective nightly rate.
