Real World Machine values Delta SkyMiles at 1.2 cents (USD) each. By our calculations, this makes Delta SkyMiles
Measured as a reward miles rebate for non-elite members, the SkyMiles program rebates you 6.0%, in the form of miles, for your monetary spending on airfare, exclusive of taxes and most fees, with Delta. Those at the top elite status level, which is Diamond Medallion, get a 13.2% miles rebate.
How Did We Calculate the Value?
The value of one point is determined primarily by the award mileage cost to redeem SkyMiles towards flights. Award flight redemption costs are are based on 20 air routes…10 domestic and 10 international. For consistency, the same air routes are used to compare multiple airlines.
The valuation also factors in the variety of redemption options, the size of the Delta’s network, and the availability of awards.

Delta does alright on all of these fronts. They have a good variety of redemption options in terms of class of travel: first, business, premium economy, and economy cabins. As the second largest commercial airline in the world by passenger-miles, they also have one of the most extensive global networks of any airline, especially once you add in their SkyTeam partners.
Award availability is okay, but not superlative. Delta has transitioned to a revenue-based redemption model, i.e., the amount of miles you’ll have to spend on an award flight redemption with Delta will vary significantly based on the cash price of the flight. Since the point cost is tied into the cash cost, there’s not much room for getting a “good deal” with your SkyMiles. On the bright side, you don’t have to feel that you’re “wasting” your miles on shorter domestic flights…which can be the downside of airline carriers who use a fixed-rate region-based redemption model.
